Backchannelling is the process of actively listening to a person speak while using physical or verbal cues such as nodding, saying "Uh-huh" or "Okay" or "yeah". It will help the listener focus on what the person who is talking is actually saying.
I appreciated how Sherry was honest and said how she does sleep with her phone and is engaged with it probably more than she should. It made me want to listen to her more.
I didn't appreciate anything in particular about her talk. I thought she had a great point to make and she came across very clearly on the purpose of her talk. Our society in general is very wrapped up in technology. As she said, "We are smitten with technology" (Sherry Turkle). I thought this was very amusing because it is very true with those people who are attached to their cellphones and say, "I love my phone. I couldn't live without it."
Sherry Turkle's talk was entertaining and interesting because she added her own personal spin on it by incorporating personal stories of how she is attached in a way to her cellphone. We can all improve on the amount of screen time we engage in and start engaging with other people face to face more.
